XRD patterns of melt-cast and gel-derived 45S5 powders. The as cast melt-cast glass is amorphous (showing a broad bump at ~32° 2θ and no sharp peaks corresponding to crystallographic planes). When the cast glass is intentionally crystallized the peaks that are observed match those of combeite (Na2Ca2Si3O9), the same phase which is observed after gel-derived 45S5 is thermally stabilized and crystallized
