The signal intensity is shown over the whole analysis area. The estimated thickness of the cell is 280 nm. (B) 3D reconstruction of the depth profile showing the distribution of strontium and the cell signals C3H8N+, C5H12N+ and C5H15PNO4 +. The value of the z axis has no physical meaning and depends on the number of layers in the 3D profile. The SIMS mass images show the lateral distribution summed over the whole depth profile of the total ions (C), cell mass signal C3H8N+ (D) and the strontium signal (E).
