Representative force-deformation curves of the (a) untreated, (b) dehydrated, and (c) HV-treated collagen fibril matrices. Force-deformation curves were obtained using commercially available gold colloidal probe cantilevers at a normal force of 5 nN in PBS at ambient temperature. Black solid lines with the average fit range on the force-deformation curves illustrate the regions fitted to the JKR model to calculate the elastic modulus values for the collagen fibril matrices [11, 44]. All samples were made in 50 mm bacterial grade polystyrene dishes as previously described [34, 37].
