Image of superhydrophobic surfaces dried after 5-hour diatom settlement assay. The surfaces are transparent in nature and are placed on a black surface for clarity. Dark regions indicate the presence of bubbles remaining after 5 hours of immersion, whereas opaque regions are fouled. This was confirmed with contact angle measurements where the ability for the surface to retain air is lost after fouling.
